Okra

Okra or ‘Lady Finger’ or  ‘Bhindi’ is one of the most loved and healthy vegetables in India. . Okra is rich source of vitamins, protein, calcium and other minerals. Okra is mainly grown for its green tender nutritive fruits. Dry fruits and skin are useful in paper industry and fibre extraction.It is mainly grown in tropical and sub-tropical regions. The major growing states in India are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Orissa. It is a vegetable that can be grown almost in every part of the country.

The three main planting seasons for Okra are February-April, June-July and October-November. At present, there are many good varieties of Okra that gives good yield to the farmers. Andhra Pradesh is the leading okra producing state which has production of around 1184.2 thousand tons from an area of 78.90 thousand ha, with a productivity of 15 tons/ha. It is followed by West Bengal (862.1 thousand tons from 74.00 thousand ha with 11.70 tons/ha productivity)
